The Hidden Larder Door

A full kitchen refit in a family home where the client wanted the doorway through to the utility to disappear. We built a bank of tall larder units and turned one of them into a working door, so the kitchen reads as one clean run of cabinetry with a secret passage behind it.

STEP 1

The Starting Point

Dated oak kitchen with a separate doorway and fridge housing breaking up the wall.

STEP 2

Drawn to the Millimetre

Every tall unit, void and hinge position worked out on paper before a single panel was cut.

STEP 3

Building the Frame

Tall carcasses set out and fixed square, leaving the opening for the hidden door.

STEP 4

Fitting the Door

Heavy duty hinges and a lined reveal so the door swings clear and the passage feels finished.

STEP 5

Open

Pull the larder door and you walk straight through to the utility.

STEP 6

Closed

Shut it and it is just another tall unit. Nobody knows it is there.
